October 16, 2009 // Me
Throwing in the towel? Well this morning I did.  Not sure why really, but just woke up feeling like I don't belong, or slightly out of place. I posted this same question on twitter and got some great responses, but I wanted to share my thoughts here as well. What are your thoughts? Even if you don't comment just think about it for a few minutes. I've thought this over all morning and feel confident moving forward. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Michelle:

Hi Zak! I know how you feel. I feel like that now and then and have to spend the day just unwinding (and crying!) to get myself together. I hope your day gets better!

(10.16.09 @ 04:18 PM)
Freida:

Yes! However... think about this... there are always times when we are lifted out of our daze through inspiration and encouragement from others... that help to remind us why we are pressing forward. You, Zak, were my inspiration a few months back. Somewhat defeated before even trying... you gave me the chance to shine and start my photography. Ride out your defeat... or your "throwing in the towel"... inspiration will float your way in due time, it will. If we were on top all of the time, I don't think we could truly appreciate it as much as when we hit a wall, ya know? No struggle, no growth.

AllisonS:

I think everyone feels this sometimes :) you definitely shouldnt quit because you're great at what you do!

(10.20.09 @ 09:08 AM)
smittengreta:

heck YESSSSSS!!!! don't know if you're specifically talking about photography, but as for me.... sometimes i'm like, IS IT WORTH IT?!?!? thanks for letting me vent, hahahaha!! :)

(10.20.09 @ 12:13 PM)
Sylvia Borgo:

I do. I do all the time. We were so many hats, don't we? We want to excel at all we do. And our strive for excellence is a good force, one that propels us forward. But this force is also the one that brings us down when we feel like haven't reached our best. Zak, always remember that you are AWESOME at all you do!

(10.20.09 @ 07:32 PM)
Jamie Burnett:

Funny... I've felt the same way for the past few weeks. Just can't make every shoot "unique enough" makes me wonder if I'm not cutting it.

(10.24.09 @ 10:58 AM)
Jaime:

I go through this in cycles Zak. For weeks at a time I feel like I'm never going to get anywhere, despite this being what I really want to do. If you're referring to photography ... YOU are doing it for the RIGHT reasons, and it shows in your work! You are awesome at what you do Zak, so chin up! :) And remember ... this feeling will pass, your motivation will be renewed ... as Freida said, "no struggle, no growth." It's funny, you also motivated me ... when I was feeling like throwing in the towel.

(10.24.09 @ 04:47 PM)
ohana photographers:

are we talking about being chargers fans? lol. jk. no, never. but i've loved photography since i was in the womb ;)

Well the AFC Half Marathon is almost here and I have trained hard to get to this point. The only thing left to do is choose my attire. So what is it? Red or White? Either way I'm going to be a blinding flash running through San Diego ;), but I thought it would be fun for ya'll to decide my color. Aug 13 2009.jpg

smittengreta:

i vote white! gooooooooo white light'nin!!!!!!!!!! the red is a little more... mr. koolaid! ;) you're gonna be awesome!!

(08.13.09 @ 06:15 PM)
Rachael Earl:

White for sure! Less...sweat stains? :)

(08.13.09 @ 06:28 PM)
Carrie Vines:

You look happier in red....I think you want to wear red!

(08.13.09 @ 07:01 PM)
Kelly:

Definitely white!! Get your run on Zak!

(08.13.09 @ 07:30 PM)
Jennifer:

White... now that I see the outfits side by side... do boys wear running "outfits"?

(08.13.09 @ 08:38 PM)
Zak Schwank:

I think I like the white better. It has a nice slimming effect. LOL

(08.13.09 @ 09:57 PM)
Sylvia Borgo:

I have to say red. Red is the magic number. Oh, wait, . . . that is 3 is the magic number. I'm sticking with red!

(08.14.09 @ 07:50 AM)
Brandi:

I say RED!!

(08.14.09 @ 08:01 AM)
Amy:

Red, it will be just a tad easier for your family to pick you out of the crowd of T-shirts. I wore a bright pink in my half marathon, and it stood out enough that they were able to see me coming. And you want them yelling for you at the end, motivation is key!

(08.14.09 @ 10:43 AM)
Jaime:

Ooooh....such a tough choice. Red is easier to spot ...but you have such an awesome game face when you're wearing the white. LOL I think I am voting white!!! You're totally gonna rock it Zak!!!

(08.14.09 @ 12:18 PM)
Jamie Burnett:

White will be cooler in the heat! Go for white! :)

(08.14.09 @ 04:01 PM)
Jamie Burnett:

BTW... Is that a ho on your fence???

(08.14.09 @ 04:03 PM)
smittengreta:

a poem for zak: as i read, i was like, ohhhhh good point jamie. and then i read some more and thought, too true jaime! i don't know!!!!! ask the ho?

(08.14.09 @ 04:28 PM)
smittengreta:

in my poem, the first "jaime" should read "amy". thank you.

(08.14.09 @ 04:34 PM)
Emily Hockett:

RED!

(08.14.09 @ 05:27 PM)
Jeannie:

Red!

(08.14.09 @ 07:23 PM)
ohana photographers:

zak! saw that you totally kicked butt out here! way to rock that 5k!!!

(08.18.09 @ 01:40 AM)
erica:

that's such an amazing accomplishment!

(08.19.09 @ 07:56 AM)
Christine Dammann:

Darn! I didn't see this post until now. I was on 6th avenue taking pictures of some of my friends in the race. Wish I knew you were running I would have shot some of you also! [with my new 70-200!- love it!] How did the race go for you?

(08.19.09 @ 09:11 AM)
Brianna Phelan:

Oooh white for sure! :)

(08.19.09 @ 08:07 PM)
jules:

I'm obsessed with your legs and the fact that your feet are in exactly the same position, shoe laces and all, except for a blade of grass on the left. How do you feel about some random NJ girl studying your legs? I think the race is over, judging by the comments, but I would have voted white cuz I agree with the "got your game face on" comment.

Wait a minute. Your hands are in exactly the same position too. HOW DID YOU DO THAT?????

(08.20.09 @ 06:05 PM)
Chris:

Ella says, "They might be twins." lol

April 29, 2009 // Just for fun / Me
First I really want to say thank you to everyone that commented and opened up about what drives you.  It really means a lot to hear, or read in this case, what makes others tick.  Music is really important to me and from the looks of it, ya'll feel the same. :)  I wonder what it is about music that touches us so?  I know for me that my day isn't complete without a little...well a lot of music.  I share most of my day with my kids singing in the car, the house, the shower...you know I had to go there...everyone sings in the shower right?  It just makes my day better, but when I really need a kick in the pants, I listen to Eminem's "Lose Yourself" to get pumped.  The beat, the lyrics, the overall feel of the song actually gives me goosebumps...it's weird.  Anyways sit back and take a listen...the first few lines really set the tone for me.  Enjoy!

Drum roll please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and don't base on my hair...it's late.
**Disclaimer** It's kinda hard to read the names, but I assure you that it was a fair contest. Next time I'll use a sharpie. Live and learn.
Chris I need your email.
Thanks again everyone!
Zak

I thought I would be flamed if I ever admitted to being an eminem fan... I like to rock out when my kids aren't in the car.. helps to have harmon kardon surround... I may be a mom... but I can still be a cool mom! :) Check out Far East Movement " Girls on the Dance Floor" You just might feel like a college kid again, or at least try to dance like one! :)

(05.05.09 @ 10:30 PM)
Zak Schwank:

ahhh so glad I'm not the only one rockin' out as a parent. :) Check out the song this morning Jamie, and the kids started dancing like mad. LOL
