Hi Zak! I know how you feel. I feel like that now and then and have to spend the day just unwinding (and crying!) to get myself together. I hope your day gets better!
(10.16.09 @ 04:18 PM)Yes! However... think about this... there are always times when we are lifted out of our daze through inspiration and encouragement from others... that help to remind us why we are pressing forward. You, Zak, were my inspiration a few months back. Somewhat defeated before even trying... you gave me the chance to shine and start my photography. Ride out your defeat... or your "throwing in the towel"... inspiration will float your way in due time, it will. If we were on top all of the time, I don't think we could truly appreciate it as much as when we hit a wall, ya know? No struggle, no growth.
(10.16.09 @ 09:28 PM)I think everyone feels this sometimes :) you definitely shouldnt quit because you're great at what you do!
(10.20.09 @ 09:08 AM)heck YESSSSSS!!!! don't know if you're specifically talking about photography, but as for me.... sometimes i'm like, IS IT WORTH IT?!?!? thanks for letting me vent, hahahaha!! :)
(10.20.09 @ 12:13 PM)I do. I do all the time. We were so many hats, don't we? We want to excel at all we do. And our strive for excellence is a good force, one that propels us forward. But this force is also the one that brings us down when we feel like haven't reached our best. Zak, always remember that you are AWESOME at all you do!
Funny... I've felt the same way for the past few weeks. Just can't make every shoot "unique enough" makes me wonder if I'm not cutting it.
(10.24.09 @ 10:58 AM)I go through this in cycles Zak. For weeks at a time I feel like I'm never going to get anywhere, despite this being what I really want to do. If you're referring to photography ... YOU are doing it for the RIGHT reasons, and it shows in your work! You are awesome at what you do Zak, so chin up! :) And remember ... this feeling will pass, your motivation will be renewed ... as Freida said, "no struggle, no growth." It's funny, you also motivated me ... when I was feeling like throwing in the towel.
(10.24.09 @ 04:47 PM)are we talking about being chargers fans? lol. jk. no, never. but i've loved photography since i was in the womb ;)
(10.26.09 @ 02:47 PM)
Yes, it has been a long time. 4th grade, Mr. Stones class. Lots of cherished memories and great times. And so very true, the past few years of seeing our families grow have been awesome too. As usual, great job here. We love every one of these photos. Thank you again Zak, we had a great time.
(09.14.09 @ 10:30 PM)This is such a beautiful family. I love what they're wearing too, it's fun and colorful. Cute dog too!
(09.15.09 @ 07:27 AM)love them!!! i'm really liking your editing style too! it's subtle, and it's really cohesive with your style of shooting. that probably only makes sense in my head... oh well!! :) that dog shot cracks me up, looks like he's doing the awkward dance you do when you and someone else are trying to sidestep each other but keep sidestepping the same way at the same time.... lol
(09.16.09 @ 11:23 AM)the sandy hands and the swing shots!! awesome set zak attack!
(09.22.09 @ 10:37 AM)what a cute and stylish family! It is so fun to see all the smiles and hugs! I looooove all the color!!!
(09.27.09 @ 07:06 AM)I love when a family isn't completely matchy matchy! They look great in the bright colors! I hope you or sylvia are still taking photos by the time I have kids :)
(10.20.09 @ 09:28 AM)

(08.24.09 @ 10:22 AM)A- Dorable! At least that cotton candy wasn't chewed yet... That's usually what I get! LOL
(08.24.09 @ 11:25 AM)The "loving moments" one.... yes! That is every mom and dad with kids to a tee! They just know!
I laughed out loud at the cotton candy one. :)
I love all of them... namely the ice cream and cotton candy ones. :)
Zak! I just AODRE these. You really captured me and my boys perfectly. We had an AWESOME time with you. D. and J. keep on asking when we are going to go eat ice-cream with Mr. Zak again. Hmm, . . what should I tell them? :)
(08.24.09 @ 06:28 PM)LOL at the cotton candy! That's totally what Abbie does! I love the one right before it, too!
(08.25.09 @ 03:06 PM)Sylvia ... your family is beautiful and Zak captured them beautifully! I know Sylvia will treasure this session with lots of LOVE!!! So fun to get a family shot like these!!!
(08.25.09 @ 08:22 PM)Oh.... these are just fantastic Zak. I laughed SO hard at your portion of cotton candy. Did you eat it ALL?
A photographer friend and I keep talking about swapping family sessions, but you know.... we never get around to it. After seeing these, THAT'S IT. Not only are we actually going to do it, I'm going to suggest we do it once a year. Sylvia, your family is adorable! I just LOVE these images!!!!
How have I never seen your blog, twitter-friend? Lovely work - My fav is the last one in the set of them eating ice cream. :)
(09.01.09 @ 08:19 AM)

(08.19.09 @ 09:45 PM)That's my BOY! Awww, Zak, I'm melting over here - I love this shot! I can't wait to see more!

(08.28.09 @ 01:06 PM)
i vote white! gooooooooo white light'nin!!!!!!!!!! the red is a little more... mr. koolaid! ;) you're gonna be awesome!!
(08.13.09 @ 06:15 PM)White... now that I see the outfits side by side... do boys wear running "outfits"?
(08.13.09 @ 08:38 PM)I think I like the white better. It has a nice slimming effect. LOL
(08.13.09 @ 09:57 PM)I have to say red. Red is the magic number. Oh, wait, . . . that is 3 is the magic number. I'm sticking with red!
(08.14.09 @ 07:50 AM)Red, it will be just a tad easier for your family to pick you out of the crowd of T-shirts. I wore a bright pink in my half marathon, and it stood out enough that they were able to see me coming. And you want them yelling for you at the end, motivation is key!
(08.14.09 @ 10:43 AM)Ooooh....such a tough choice. Red is easier to spot ...but you have such an awesome game face when you're wearing the white. LOL I think I am voting white!!! You're totally gonna rock it Zak!!!
(08.14.09 @ 12:18 PM)a poem for zak: as i read, i was like, ohhhhh good point jamie. and then i read some more and thought, too true jaime! i don't know!!!!! ask the ho?
(08.14.09 @ 04:28 PM)zak! saw that you totally kicked butt out here! way to rock that 5k!!!
(08.18.09 @ 01:40 AM)Darn! I didn't see this post until now. I was on 6th avenue taking pictures of some of my friends in the race. Wish I knew you were running I would have shot some of you also! [with my new 70-200!- love it!] How did the race go for you?
(08.19.09 @ 09:11 AM)I'm obsessed with your legs and the fact that your feet are in exactly the same position, shoe laces and all, except for a blade of grass on the left. How do you feel about some random NJ girl studying your legs? I think the race is over, judging by the comments, but I would have voted white cuz I agree with the "got your game face on" comment.
Wait a minute. Your hands are in exactly the same position too. HOW DID YOU DO THAT?????
(08.20.09 @ 06:05 PM)Ella says, "They might be twins." lol
(09.04.09 @ 03:36 PM)
You pulled that red color out incredibly! I love the bright and vivid photos! What a treasure for that family!
(08.10.09 @ 04:28 PM)Hi Zak; you did a great job with these. I am impressed with your talent behind the lens; props to you!

(08.10.09 @ 04:36 PM)i wish i lived closer to the beach!!!! you're so LUCKY! love these obviously! my fav is the b&w of the dad and son on the pier, gazing out into the awesome!! oh, and i scrolled back up - the set underneath that one... the pic on the right. that's my 2nd fav!
(08.10.09 @ 05:34 PM)Wow! Love, love, love it! my fav is the dad and son on the pier.. love the black & white! You rock, Zak

(08.10.09 @ 07:31 PM)Thank you Zak!! You were so patient and easy to work with as I know we are challenging subjects! Can't wait to get these up on our wall. Thank you for capturing our memories in such a unique way.
(08.10.09 @ 08:38 PM)I love the photos, they are so laid back and relaxed. The family looks so energetic and fun!
(08.11.09 @ 09:31 AM)love this fun family! the boys look like they had a great time during the session!

Also... I was talking with my mom this morning and telling her how I feel like you (& Jennifer) have somewhat taken me under your wings... and have given me such a gift... to move forward... to go after what I want... to try. From the bottom of my heart thank you for that. :)
My mom said it sounded like you were paying it forward... I tend to agree....
These are great! Love kids...they add such a cool dymanic to pics!!!

(07.20.09 @ 08:34 PM)After seeing the title of the latest post ... I decided on a chapter or two from a book about a friendly spider and a famous pig for a bedtime story. :) Oh gosh Zak ... I totally love these! Gosh, wish you could have come to the fair with me! I love that flare too!!! Beautiful family!
(07.21.09 @ 12:09 AM)I just love the colors and lights of a fair, and I especially love when little kiddos have big eyes from taking all the excitement in. The photos are fun and fresh feeling, and are just joyful to look at.
(07.21.09 @ 06:56 AM)Love the first one with the little guy pointing and Dad looking in amazement. Sweet moment! :)
(07.21.09 @ 08:18 AM)I love the approach you took of capturing their time together :) These are lovely!

(07.16.09 @ 11:59 AM)I'm a big fan of storytelling moments in black and white. Maybe a bit of a contrast boost would make it pop more but I love it! :)
(07.17.09 @ 06:21 PM)
